Telling family and friends!

Although we were so excited about the news, we decided that we didn't want to tell everyone right away. (And if you know Andy, you know that this was a secret that was VERY difficult for him to keep!) We wanted to go to our first doctor appointment and find out that everything was ok, and then we really wanted to tell our families in person. Once we knew all was well, we planned a trip home. We were leaving for Florida on April 18, 2009 to vacation with my family, so we flew to MN the day before to tell Andy's family so that no one would be in the dark for too long.

It was great to go home and see Andy's family, as we don't really get many opportunities to go back to MN. We spent the day just kind of hanging out. We went over to his grandparents house and shared the news with them while we were waiting for Andy's parents to get done with work. After that, we headed to dinner his parents and brother. Andy, of course, came up with a plan. He bought a food magazine, knowing that his mom would enjoy reading it. There was an article in there about a restaurant in Chicago that we had gone to. So, we put one of the ultrasound pictures inside the magazine and asked her to read the article. She turned to the page, flipped over the ultrasound picture (thinking it was an insert), and began to read the article. We were like, "she is totally going to miss it!" Finally she realized what it was and was ecstatic. There were lots of hugs and excitement. It was pretty cool!

That night, we flew back to Chicago because we were leaving the next day to go to FL with my family. Once we got to FL, my mom picked us up from the airport and brought us back to the condo. All the family was there getting ready to go out for dinner. It was going to be a bit of a drive because we were meeting my grandparents (who were also in FL at the time) for dinner as well. In the car on the way there, I decided that I should tell everyone then because knowing my sister, she could potentially cause a scene with all of her excitement in the middle of the restaurant and I didn't want that. So, I proceeded to tell everyone that they should come down to Chicago for Thanksgiving this year because I would be having a baby around that time. Now, I did say it in a subtle tone, trying to see if anyone would pick it up. And of course, no one did. Seriously!? Then my brother says, "wait, did you just say baby?" And then everyone freaked out. Lots of crying, hugging, and excitement all in a little rental car. It was really fun!
